Casa Maite is situated just below the church, in the oldest part of this classic Moorish mountain village, at the „Barrio Bajo“, here one is transported back to the Spain of days long gone by …
It is here, that you will find this lovely old Moorish house which has been restored and extended to create a spacious home on three floors. The gistorical style has been retained, with its huge chestnut beamed ceilings, terracotta floor tiles and wobbly white-whashed walls, but now enhanced modern comfort and facilities.
The house is entirely built in stone by the Berbers who settled these villages long ago, it is at least six hundred years old and stands on a natural foundation of rock. The house is now a protected building, an excellent example of the traditional architecture of Las Alpujarras.
The south-facing views of the beautiful Poqueira’s Ravine with the shimmering Mediterranean and Morocco far beyond are fabulous.
The advantages of being at the bottom of the village are inmediately evident – no traffic, countrysied and unspoiled view all around and absolutely quiet.
To wal to te top of the village whre the shops, bars and restaurants are located, is a bit of climb up. (a five minutes walk)
Mind you, you can drive up if you are feeling lazy !
There is a parking at the church square for medium sized and smaller cars.
